Because the true figure depends on your protocol, your medication doses, how many cycles you need and what a particular clinic includes in its package. Anyone quoting one exact number before assessing you is guessing.

What usually costs more than people expect?

Medication. Doses vary widely between people and it is often billed separately from the cycle price. Genetic testing, freezing and storage are also commonly quoted as extras.

Is a more expensive clinic better?

Not necessarily. Price reflects location, packaging and positioning as much as anything else. Compare live birth rates for your age group, laboratory standards and who actually performs the procedure.

Does the estimate include repeat cycles?

No. It covers a single cycle of the treatment you selected. Many people need more than one, so ask clinics about multi-cycle packages and what happens if a cycle is cancelled.
